West Virginia Headline News and Talk Radio: "Relatives of the 29-miners killed at the Upper Big Branch Mine in Montcoal, West Virginia were not shocked to learn of the disaster April 5th that killed thier loved ones. Several family members addressed a Congressional Committee in Beckley Monday and detailed stories of safety problems well ahead of the explosion.

'When an MSHA inspector comes onto Massey property the code word goes out, 'We've got a man on the property.'' said Gary Quarles, father of 31-year old Gary Wayne Quarles who died at UBB. 'Those words are radioed from the guard gate and related to all operations in the mine.'

More damaging testimony to the safety of Upper Big Branch came from Steve Morgan, the father of 21-year old victim Adam Morgan.Steve is employed at the Pinnacle mine in Pineville and says he and his son had many discussions about the UBB operation when he would get home from work"
