The Advantages Of An Auto Navigation System

By Owen Jones

It appears that every new car you see these days has an auto navigation system. They are impressive too, there is no doubt about that, but how many drivers utilize them to their full advantage?

The initial navigation systems to become reasonably priced did not have maps and did not have voice instructions, but then they were for use by yachts men and women. They were also fitted in commercial vehicles fairly early on, but when they were first fitted into cars, it was only into the Bentleys and Ferraris of this world.

Now auto navigation systems are inexpensive enough to go in a Ford. And that is great, but they are still normally part of an upgrade package, which a lot of people do not really need, because they are too atechnical to get the most out of the sat nav.

If you travel long distances to different places on a normal basis, then an auto navigation system is very handy, but your employer has almost certainly already installed them in the fleet cars for the sales force. Likewise, an auto navigation system is very handy if you are lost, but how often do people go to places where they run the risk of getting lost?

It seems to me, that the best use of an auto navigation system to most people is to steer clear of traffic jams. However, this means sitting down with the instruction book and learning how to use the system correctly.

An auto navigation system can easily help you avoid such hazards as road blocks, traffic jams and accidents. If you ask it. It can also help you find routes to where you want to go that you would never have considered even if you do know the neighbourhood pretty well. If you know how to ask it.

It is a real shame that people buy this technology, or any other for that matter, in order to impress their friends and never comprehend the full potential of what they have within their reach. Alright, if you have more money than sense, you may think why not?

But the population of the world is starting to think about waste and how we can conserve resources, so honestly you, the planet and everybody in it would be better off, if you did not fritter away your money, or worse still, get into debt just to show off. This is a symptom of where we went wrong last time.

An auto navigation system can be a real boon because it can help you save fuel by selecting direct routes and also help unblock our roads by showing vehicles different routes. If you have an auto navigation system, learn how to use it and you will perceive the great benefits that are locked away inside that little box; but if you are buying a new car and you know that you will never be troubled to learn how to use it, do everyone a favour and just do not have an auto navigation system installed.
